Dr. Mailis Gagnon is a guideline developer and has served as the co-chair of the Chronic Pain Task Force of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, responsible for the 2000 Evidence-Based Guidelines for the Management of Chronic Non Cancer Pain. She has continued to be instrumental in the generation of several other guidelines, including the Canadian Guideline for safe and effective use of opioids for chronic non cancer pain released in May 2010, the Neuropathic Pain Guidelines of the Canadian Pain Society and several more upcoming guidelines. She has given numerous lectures to physicians, other health providers, legal societies, and the public at large locally, provincially, nationally and internationally on chronic pain topics as an invited speaker. She has presented numerous scientific lectures and posters in national and international society meetings. She has travelled as a visiting professor in several Canadian and international regions (Taiwan, Kuwait, Brazil, Colombia etc). She has organized numerous Continuous Medical Education (CME) courses and conferences. |
She has written a popular science book (BEYOND PAIN) for the public and health professionals, and two pocket size educational booklets for physicians and public, as well numerous handouts for her lectures. For the past 25 years she has trained large numbers of Canadian medical students, residents and fellows as well as international fellows who have come to her program for training from several countries and continents. She is a regular bi-weekly writer for CARP Advocacy newsletter on topics relating to chronic pain diagnosis and management. The interest reader can see all these articles in www.carp.ca |
